Centennial Initiatives to Provide Funding for Grand Challenge Proposal

We are pleased to announce that the UBC sustainability Initiative, including 2014-2016 Pathway Fellows, USI Sustainability Chair, and The Associate Directors, Teaching, Learning & Research were awarded a Centennial Initiatives Fund. The proposal included launching a campus-wide challenge to the UBC Community. This would allow UBC to move towards a “net-positive” or regenerative impact on the environment. Through its education and research contributions, UBC has a strong positive impact on society, but our activity impacts the environment through its use of energy, water and materials. Using the recently developed 20 Year Sustainability Strategy as inspiration, students would form teams with faculty, staff and alumni advisors to tackle parts of this Grand Challenge. We would recognize proposed solutions that have short or long term potential to move UBC towards environmental “net positive”. More information to follow.
